Alleppey is known as the Venice of the East, Alleppey is an important backwaters destination. Noted for its boat races, beaches, marine products & coir industry, Alappuzha is also home to Kuttanad – the Rice Bowl of Kerala, which is one of the few places in the world where farming is done below sea level. Called the rice bowl of Kerala, Kuttanad is perhaps the only region in the world where farming is done 1.5 to 2m below sea level. Inland waterways which flow above land level are an amazing feature of this region. A 137 – year – old pier which extends into the sea & an old light house add to the attractions of the beach.

Nehru Trophy Boat Race
Nehru Trophy Boat race at Punnamada, Alappuzha is one of the most significant and colourful boat races in Kerala. It is a world renowned event, held annually on the second Saturday of the month of August in the Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha.This race became a regular annual event after the visit of India's 1st prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru in 1952 to Alappuzha.
Krishnapuram Palace

Built during the reign of a Travancore King, Marthanda Varma, the palace dates back to 18th century. Ambalapuzha Sree Krishna Temple
The Ambalapuzha Sree Krishna Temple is believed to have been built during 15th – 17th AD by the local ruler Chembakasserry Pooradam Thirunal-Devanarayanan Thampuran.This famous Sree Krishna Temple at Ambalapuzha, is known for its traditional Kerala architecture and delicious palpayasam (sweet porridge made with milk).
Champakulam Church
Champakulam church is one of the oldest churches situated in Alappuzha district, Kerala.Believed to be established in AD 427.Rebuilt many times and the many rock inscriptions found around the church tell us about the history of the church. The open air Rock Cross at Champakulam church is one of the most ancient ones with clear documentation of its antiquity up to AD 1151.

Alleppey Lighthouse
Lighthouse in Alleppey is established in 1862 and the light source was changed to electrical light in 1960. In good old times of Alleppey port , it act as a guiding source for numerous ships which reached the Alleppey port . As the time passed and the the importance of the port was diminished but still the light house serves it duty of sending the light across 16 miles to the sea.
Karumadi Kuttan
Karumadikkuttan , The name literally means boy from Karumady. This black granite statue, believed to be old as 9th to 14th century, was abandoned for centuries in a nearby stream named "Karumady thodu". Later in 1930s, Sir Robert Bristow, a colonial British engineer found the statue, and did appropriate actions to protect it. Currently the statue is under the protection of Kerala state government.

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple
Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple is a very ancient and internationally known centre of pilgrimage for the devotees of serpent gods (Nagaraja).Sarpa Yakshi and Naga Yakshi are the beloved consorts of Nagaraja. It is believed that Nagaraja as the installed diety is endowed with the form of Hari (Lord Vishnu) and the spirit of Lord Shiva.
